Hi,
does anyone know if my dads w124 gearbox dipstick would suit my e320cdi please?
Also would any one recommend using mercedes antifreez instead of other makes?
I ask as i've just bought the w reg e320cdi & its covered 167000 mile & the service history is a little vague to say the least so I want to get it right.
ps great site guys!!!!

No the gearbox sticks are different, you need to get one from mb.

I dont think it makes much difference about antifreeze, mb is about £9.00 for 1.5 litre bottle, you only need 2 or three.

Wow that was quicker than calling Mercedes lol.
Thanks for that I thought it was a long shot,I called MB at Stoke today & they said the same as other people have said on here they can't sell them as they are a workshop tool & quoted me £164 to change 5 litres filter & gasket.
Crewe engines quoted £40+vat + parts approx £100 trouble is i would rather do things myself as I know there done with the correct oils etc but I think I might struggle on the driveway with this.
Changed the engine oil for mobil 1 supersyn last week.
I also have a new thermostat to fit as mine is running at 60.
Do you think there is anything else I should do?
Thanks again.

Check the front suspension ball joints and a general check over but if it anit broke dont fix it.

oh a brake fluid change if you dont think its had one in the last three years.

other than that you should be ok.

Find out what gearbox you have, and use the number (eg 722.4) on Ebay - you should find one.

Great I will try that but how do I find out which gearbox my car has?
Its a e320cdi facelift w-2000 auto with w&s mode.
By the way your gearbox oil change guide is excellent.
Thanks mate.
