No , it sticks up from inside the sump drain hole for 2" . If you hit YouTube on "722.9 gearbox oil change" there is a lot of good stuff .
Also the DIY section here on the forum
And the members here obviously .

All in all, it's a ****** awkward set up...throwback to the time when it was sealed for life...or is there another explanation for it??? the 5 speed 722.6 is easy compared to it....and it not so simple either,
