hi budddy, i,ve ordered the later parts q5 which is the updated parts, parts are not here yet but i,m useing an indy with star and he is aware that the data card and update needs doing . my problem was when i spoke to the manager his response was highly unlikely and failed to acknoledge there was ever a problem with nox sensors and because i didnt have full dealer history he highly doubted any good will.

I genuinely believe quality of the later mercs have slipped, i still love the brand i really do but the premature failure of sensors ad blue tank heaters port shut off motors and not forgeting the 7g box electro plate etc makes this a very expensive car to own and run, i,m not a great lover of bmw but the wife has always had them and other than routine serviceing and general things like brakes and shockers they just keep going , i have no choice except to bite the bullet and repair this myself as acording to my main dealer in bolton there is no such problem with NOX SENSORS.

I think BM and Audi suffer pretty badly with issues.
Biggest issue for me would be having to drive a BM or an Audi...

I still fail to see how MB can charge for software updates to fix faulty software installed from new.
Microsoft and Apple don't charge for bugfixes....

They are just too clever. I have had Benz for 20 yr, they now have a different business model, I have bought my last. I feel as tho Benz view me as a cash cow to be milked at every chance, led by but not restricted to modern emissions "guesswork". I enjoyed my sl600, I am, for different reasons enjoying my ml250. But the bussines model is to "bite" me, the game is when to flinch and get out. Sensors, adblue, DPF, chocolate gears, chains, enforced updates, 4x4 that can't tow officially, without 3k of upgrades. . All shixx not required for consideration a dacadde ago

completely agree with the above, you buy a quality car and end up paying again for things that should not fail but do. i am down for the emmissions update also but dont think i will bother to be honest.

Problem with updates. You don't own the software! Or know what it's doing thay you didn't need or ask for.? Cynic in me says it's likely doing more for Benz than for me.. I going nowhere near anything called update till I have no choice, and I sure that situation is on its way...

Which is another point. If you don't own the software how can they charge you to update something you don't own which needs an update because it was faulty from new?

Xactly.! Next thing yr car will warn you that if u don't go for update by a certain date yr car will simply not start in the morning...

Some very interesting and valid points made on this thread which I agree with but we also have to take into consideration where we started from and where we have ended up. The EU legislators played their part meeting EU2 and moving to EU6 emissions standards within 20 years of production forced many manufacturers to abandon thorough testing pre production and leave it to an unsuspecting owner to do it in the field. Allied to this is that MB have become a mass producer of motor vehicles with 10 times the models/types/variants for sale to boost production which was the right move confirmed by how their competitors in the 80s have failed to remain financially viable.

If you take out EGRs, DPFs, NOx sensors and Urea injection systems cars are much better made and much more reliable than they were 30 years ago but they are the elephant in the room but a necessity unfortunately while the internal combustion engine remains the main source of power production for vehicles

quite simply they are not...
there are now LOTS of components that play up because someone designed them like that

Pistons in VAG cars
Cam chains in almost anything
Nearly all electronics / sensors / circuit boards / instrument clusters / radios

well all fitted and updated , for anybody who cannot get goodwill from mercedes like myself there is another option. source the updated versions yourself , mine cost £400 for the pair and are genuine 2020 parts. look for the later q5 code when ordering along with your part number . DAS -AUTOMOTIVE in bolton fitted them for me for £120 all in so in total about half price . pick of the old sensor, note the outdated q2 code.

The seller is a canadian seller on ebay and only sells genuine mercedes parts.

look at spares or repairs on ebay and see how many of the above makes are being sold , just gets me how they manage to hide all the faults from the world , only seems us folk in the trade know how unreliable most of the prestige makes are
