Why do all these numbers matter? Drive it and if you like it buy it. If 0 - 60 in 6 seconds isn't quick enough maybe you should be looking elsewhere.

I don't disagree Ex.

The reason I'm waiting for a twin turbo 3.0l isn't about performance, it's about driveability.

The t/t set up of the 220/250 (that I've had as courtesy cars) virtually negates the lag that the OM642 engine has, as the large single turbo spools up.

The twins "shove" from very low revs, with no noticeable lag.

I note a post today from an IL6 owner who has experienced similar - it can make standing start situations (islands etc.) er,"interesting" at times.

I have looked at the torque graph of the single-turbo V6 (350CDI). You get at least 500Nm from around 1200-4000 rpm and it maxes out at 620Nm. That sounds to me like plenty of shove even low down!

My current twin-turbo petrol unit, as modified, produces 512Nm from 1300-5000rpm. So it's actually only at the top of the rev range i.e. beyond 4k revs that the diesel would be at any disadvantage.

On the OM642 there is a well known hesitation - that's what I'm referring to.
The OM651 doesn't have it.

As I said, it's not about performance - mine has it in spades, once on song.

You can get turbo lag on twin turbos as well as single turbos.

Sometimes it's as much to do with the transmission as the engine. Which is why the likes of GAD make changes to the transmission software to reduce lag. You can never eliminate lag 100%.

Your correct sometimes it more the gearbox not giving a sharp enough bite from engine to transmission. We can almost completely eliminate this in auto and completely in manual! Turbo lag is present but we can also reduce that further.
