R230...about to purchase will update shortly
Hello all, I'm a complete newby, however must admit I found scanning this site useful in deciding to go for a E430. I now have said beast, what a difference from my old Pug 306, Anyway I'm after some help/advice. The car is a 6/98 E430 with climate control and has been well looked after. Merc Service up until recently with 94k miles on the clock. Having taken it for a motorway blast the other weekend, I noticed that the Climate Control didn't seem to be having any cooling effect. From the noises it was making, it seems to be sensing the temperature of the cabin, and adjusting fan speed accordingly, however with only warm air being pumped from the vents....
Ah, I hear you say ;) it needs a refill of R134a, which i thought too, so bought one of these top up kits.... prob a big mistake.. and pumped it to the required pressure (indicated on the kits valve as 25-40 psi). but I now have a pressurised system that still only pumps out ambient air, however whilst the compressor is working (ie EC off) I now get a steady (slightly throbbing!! ) hiss from - it sounds like - behind the vents. Can anybody advise me as to what this might be? and am I looking at monster money to rectify.. On my first visit to the Woking stdealership - although they did give me my radio code for Free - they quoted labour rates of £105 plus vat!!.. Whilst Im happy to cough for professional servicing, (I hear Mercs Only in Alperton is good) obv I dont want to spend a grand+ on staying cool if I can help it!... NB I think it may have been on the forecourt that I bought it from for a few months so perhaps the seals are knackered.. Costly?????
Many Thanks in advance
Steve :)

You do not need MB for air con, plenty of good firms out there who do not charge to diagnose what is wrong.

Many thanks for advice and the weblink, Ill investigate further, I notice a similar thread advises specialist re gassing to get rid of the inevitable moisture entering the system. I'll do some local searching in my area to find a vfm 'specialist :)'
