e430 cruise control - cuts out

When I set cruise control on my 1998 e430 it switches itself off after, anywhere between 10 seconds and 2 - 3 mins.

This happens without me doing anything, accelerating, braking, uphill, downhill, low speed, & high speed

Has anyone else experienced this? and if so how was it sorted?

Hi

Have you any other faults coming on. IE BAS light or ABS. If so it may be the brake light switch playin up. Otherwise. You will have to check the fault codes in the system & check the system actuations through star diagnosits computor.

I have a similar problem with my 2000 C250TD, although mine has these symptoms only above about 70 mph. At 73-75 it will generally just about stay on and occasionally switch off. Any higher and it gets progressively worse, to the point where at 80+ it won't even engage.

It has been looked at several times by the local independent and their conclusion was a control unit that they couldn't get the part number for. And neither could those friendly chaps at MB dealership, so at the moment I am a bit stuck. Personally I'm not convinced - the symptoms sound more mechanical to me, but then I know zilch about these cars. It's going back in next week for another try.

If there's anyone out there who has any ideas I'd appreciate it. I'll post the outcome of Round 2 on mine next week.

Aurora, thnaks for the info, I have also been having the abs light come on accasionally my MB specilist has reset these codes and cleaned a sensor near the brakes. He seems to think that it switches off if it sees any problems anywhere. I don't know if this has solved the problem as I have not driven the car yet. As soon as I know the outcome I will post it here.

It sounds very much like an ABS sensor or lead is faulty. If the car wheels don't report the same speed then the cruise cannot work.
