I have a 2003 E500 and sometimes the temperature display lights are dim, and then after a while they just become bright like they are suppose to be. I noticed a few days ago when I cranked up that they were dim. I reached over and turned on the radio and they immediately brightened up. What could the problem be?

Could this be to do with the auto light setting in you menu, try it with the auto dimming off

if the fuel gauge is ok and its just the temp gauge then I'd say the cluster is faulty. I think this is going to be an increasingly common issue. The bulbs are LEDs so not a simple fix I'm afraid.

Officially MB will say that the cluster need replacing, unnoficially I'm sure there will be people who can repair it, especially over there.

I think the OP means the lights on the heater controls?
