Hi Guys

Just wondering - does anyone here happen to know the top speed of the E55 AMG - the 1997 - 2002 360bhp model (not the current 490bhp model)?

I know they are restricted to 155mph - which is plenty fast enough and faster than I'll probably ever go, but I'd be interested to know what the car is capable of if the limiter didn't exist.

Any idea?

Mines an estate by the way.

You can work it out roughly with the rev counter at 100 mph. the turbo will not alter the top speed.

Mines remapped, rolling road 195mph.

What do you reckon that would equate to in reality? The drag must have a big part to play at those speeds. Is anyone smart(arsed) enough to do the sums?:)

It's like when my mates say that they can run 10 miles easy - on a treadmill. "But it's exactly the same as proper running!" No. No it's not.

PS. I'm not trying to slate your motor Dave, honest!

Working it out rev wise, at 6.000 it should be very close to 210 mph.

As Hibbo correctly states though, there's goin to be a fair amount of drag up there.

Mine does 70 mph all day (conditions permitting) ;)

It's locked up now in preparation for the alleged snowy stuff. I'm going to be working at home for a while :D

This is correct then allowing for losses, that comes back to about 195mph.
