Well I finally did it. I have an E55 on the drive. . Unfortunately that’s the safest place for it. I can’t believe how little grip the back end has. I have Dunlop SP sports on the rear and cannot pull out of any side road without excessive wheel spin. If I boot-it on the straight it lights up like crazy. Is there a tyre out there that can handle these beasts?

    In no particular order
    Goodyear Assymetric 3
    Falken Azenis FK510
    Pirelli P Zero
    Contisport 5
If I had kept my E63 the Falkens were going on next, I had P Zeros in summer which I actually and surprisingly thought were pretty good ( had some horrible previous experience hard crashy unforgiving )
Vredestein do good rubber too and highly underrated

I have just had Continental sport 5P’s fitted to the front. They seem very positive.
Have Contisport 3’s on the rear. They aren’t as good as the Contisport 5’s they replaced. Was a case of needs must, blow out returning from holiday.

    Nice car though, enjoy.

With the torque available from the E55K (700Nm) its virtually impossible to boot the car in any low gear without a certain amount of wheelspin whatever tyres you fit.
I recall on the test drive when I bought mine, the traction light was still flashing at slightly more than 70mph when given full throttle.
An LSD fitted would help traction, but at a cost (around £1500)

Some old design tyres mentioned here .

In 2019 we have available .

    Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5

    Continental Sport Contact 6 ,
and whilst the OP mentions Dunlop SP Sport's it's confusing as there's over 20 models of them !

Uniroyal Rainsport 3s have fabulous grip but you'll wear them out quickly if you're in the habit of putting your foot down!
    At least they're reasonably cheap....

Anything Continental ( URS3 ) related has poor wear in non MO , AO etc guise .

They only so far have addressed this with Premium Contact 6 .

Our CLK55amg was a similar vintage to your car. Even with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, it did have a propensity to keep the traction control active. You just had to wait until you were moving before booting it. I understand that by the time the W212 E63 came along they had managed to get the traction up to the torque available - my brother's hardly ever lights up the warning triangle.

The 212 gets the power down with minimum drama..
