And leave how much of it in ???.
Thirty years ago I would have had a much more “Gong Ho” approach. These days I think about the bits in the T/C and a sheared bolt in the housing. Not out to make more work these days.
No doubt it will get a bash or two but just hoping that it comes out all in one piece and that the new one goes in as originally thought.

Ha, three weeks on or more eh !!

I have to admire your tenacity and good humour...I think I would have used a sledgehammer by now!
Good luck with it!

Thanks,

A bit peed off that I haven’t managed to sort it, but now haven’t a lot of choice now as the sensor housing is snapped off and not sure if the plug would hold on long enough for me to reach someone useful.

All said and done, it is one bolt in a fairly awkward place. I can reach it. Another attempt in the week as I now miss driving it.

Humour, I was talked into buying an Austin Allegro many years ago, kept it for weeks !!!!!

Coo! A fully paid up member of the Square Wheel Club! Weren’t they awful? Our Sales garage foreman got booked for doing 42 in a 30 limit in an ‘Aggro’ the local chaps told him to get lost (cos it was impossible) when he took in his ‘Producer’ . Don’t think he got done in the end.

If this goes on much longer I'll be putting some tools in the boot and paying you a visit...

️++

In fairness I haven’t spent that much time on this, since starting this it has rained most days, spent a week on holiday, and have had a few things to help out on/ with.

Admittedly though, I have still spent about ten hours on it, taking it apart, putting it back and changing filters; all two of them so that was a good thirty mins.

It’s just one small bolt being a “pita”.
Turning out to be a bit of a saga though, I changed the O seals on both top locks on our 129 in far less time and on another occasion both wiper blades on the A class, again in less time.

Get hold of a cheap E8 socket, or whatever fits the bolt tightest and fill it with epoxy/araldite and put it on the bolt and wait for it to cure, should do the job.

Has never occurred to me to try that tactic. I'll be honest I wouldn't have the patience to wait for the epoxy to cure, by now I would have the engine and box hanging on the engine crane hook!

If the next attempt fails then I might just try this after giving it a good clean up. Have a few spare sockets.
Should have done that before I went away.
Day wasted as spent today helping my niece, she bumped her new car but all okay now.
Back on it tomorrow though.

Thank you for the idea.

Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas.

After a week soaking in penetrating stuff, a bit of packing in the E8socket and one determined effort the bolt moved.

Undid the rest by hand, slid the broken sensor out with ease. The bolt was pretty well rounded off.
I let MB sting me for a new CPS in the hope that it will last and used a new bolt.
All done, thanks all.

Used a thicker copper strand to add a spline to the torx socket and it nipped the bolt enough to crack it. Just tapped it onto the bolt with a good clout.

Yup happy days again. I thought it would have been this easy the first day.

That bolt is really mashed  . Very clever thinking though
