^ Changing front discs and pads is pretty straightforward. The AMG badge makes no difference.

It is and I’d agree on something like a Clio but, these are designed with a much lower tolerance. Ive been down this road myself and trust me, just get someone at a good Indy or dealership to do it. If you can afford an AMG Mercedes, you should be able to pay someone to do a good job for you. Getting the torques / methods correct for these requires the latest job spec.

Glad I am quite happy with a E350CDI after reading this.

If you are competent, have the necessary tools and the torque figures, its no more difficult than a non AMG model.

Affordability should have nothing to do with it and the method won't have changed. The only thing that will have changed is the price of getting someone else to do it which is fine if you don't feel confident enough in your own spannering skills.

I'm not being obtuse or trying to cause an argument, but replacing brake discs and pads on an AMG is no more technical than a non AMG model.

If you’re competent and have the latest workscope, then yeah go for it. It’s just a lot of money for parts, that if you install incorrectly - you’ll be forking out for it again.

Methods change all the time, and without access to the Mercedes system, we don’t know what is the latest. They could change the lubrication required, torque values, tolerances, advisories etc. All from field feedback.

I work in engineering systems and it’s very common to update workscopes for vehicles that have been in the field more than 5 years.

For the price of the of the parts against the potential labour, get alexanderfoti to do it for you. Any problems, just take it back :) Or gamble and do it yourself ;)

I think the keyword is competency.
I have the latest Mercedes WIS document attached below. It hasn't changed in over 5 years.
Replacing a brake disc and pads isn't rocket science, so no, if you are competent, have the tools I don't believe its a gamble at all.

I'd happily leave to an indy.
Those parking brake shoes are a pain.
Last job I’m likely to do myself Roger! These guys train for a reason and those shoes are one example ! If I had 3 hands it might have helped....

Having gathered a few quotes the general consensus is that's around the £1400-1600 mark for fronts (inc sensor)

I did get one quote in for £380.00 which I immediately questioned if the were using genuine Mercedes OEM parts, which they were adamant they were....I'm still left thinking...No, you're talking out the wrong end...discs alone are £800 a pair, how is that possible?? They must be after markets...

Is it worth investigating aftermarket parts or just a false economy?

Probably quoting the wrong parts...
Took me quite awhile to get the correct discs and pads for my 911. Kept sending the wrong ones...

£380 is wrong. They won't get the correct discs for that price.
Go for these front discs Darren. About the best price you'll get for 2 piece. The sensor is about a fiver.

I got low dust TRW pads for the front £64 a set.

If you aren't confident changing them yourself an indy could do this job in under 2hrs although the book price may be a little more.
Whatever, if you supply the parts, its under £1k

If you are really on a tight budget, you can fit normal 360mm drilled and vented discs from an E55 for under £150 a set.

Yes the Brembo discs do fit. It's the correct Mercedes fitment re PDC, 360mm and the correct two piece.
There is a long thread on the US forum about these discs and fitment despite supplier saying they don't.

I'll post a link if you want to read it.

I have a set of low dust TRW pads to put on.
Part# GDB1734DTE from Autodoc. I paid £64 last Sept but haven't needed to fit them yet.
