Its that time of year again for me
wallbash.gif

The endless fun of filling in online quote forms to get reasonable insurance for the E63 whilst waiting for the renewal price from last years insurer, Axa who incidentally charged me £505 last September.

Money Supermarket came up with a price from Tesco Insurance for £420 which I thought was very good compared to last years premium.
Then I went to Go Compare who came in with £360 , again with Tesco with my £250 voluntary excess refunded in case of a claim.

So it looks like I'm going with Tesco this year and saving myself at least £145 over last years premium

I can't see Axa getting anywhere near that and I've checked, same excesses and details.
Got a few more places to get quotes from including A Plan, Direct Line and the Meerkat one.

It's a funny old game every year.

Edit..Axa don't want me. Got a new quote which is usually cheaper than a renewal..............£1413. What a joke from last year.

Wish l could get my insurance lower for my newly acquired CLK220. Hastings invited renewal at around £560. I have full ncb, no convictions but I'll be 70 soon and l think that's what's pushing the premium up. I called A plan who offered £520 odd and who claimed it was about the "right" price. So l then invited Hastings to better their renewal price to retain the business and they came up with a brand new (better) Premier policy at around £437 which I've gone with. I'm still a bit miffed at that price since last year l paid around £320 for my previous (faster) 202 C280 and l don't think the CLK is in a higher insurance group despite the guy from Aplan inferring that it's a coupe and therefore more expensive to insure. Again l think it's my age more than anything else.

I did the same this year Roger, have a bit more time on my hands to annoy people with, so decided to make use of it. The Mercedes is pretty limited on who will insure it, mainly due to the value, but A Plan played a blinder, even beating last year's quote without being asked, so they have it again. Still substantially over a grand though. :(

The Lexus was a different matter. The usual suspects came through on the comparison sites, mainly the Admiral Group, but one company stood out head and shoulders above the others. They are called Autonet and I must admit to having never heard of them. A quick bit of research soon put me right though and they are a long established brokers based near Stoke. The car was always insured with the Co-op on their "Green" policy as it's a hybrid, but Autonet beat their quote by nearly £100.

I ended up ordering directly with them and got an even better discount, total cost of £316.14 which I was well pleased with. Let's see what they're like next year, if I still have it...

It's a funny old game every year.

Tell me about it. :D

I've gone with Tesco Insurance this year at £360, a reduction of £145 on last years Axa premium. A-Plan and Direct Line couldn't come close to the Go Compare quote.

Road fund licence is also due end of August and to avoid tax/insurance and MOT all coming out at the same time I'm going to tax the taxi (see what I did there?) for 6 months at £296.63. Then I'll go back to the 12 month cycle next March.

It's been an expensive month so far with the 3 yr Service plan paid upfront as well, and hopefully the MOT won't throw up any nasties.

Sounds like a very good price you got there. :)
I am not much less than that for my car, but there are obviously many variables to that.
The only point that has puzzled me is where you say your "£250 voluntary excess refunded"... do you mean you have simply decided not to take a voluntary excess this time?
I usually don't agree with any kind of voluntary excess because when you are older with a good driving record they tend not to make financial sense.
Of course there will always be exceptions to this. :geek:

To save explaining how it works, have a quick look at what Go Compare say

https://www.gocompare.com/free-excess-protection-cover/

I have an excess of £650. £400 compulsory and £250 voluntary.

Without knowing all the details you wouldn't think a figure that low was even possible.

That is a good price for a 55k with only 3yrs NCD.
I'm older than you and I think my age is going against me now.
The fact the car has 666bhp may have something to do with it as well.
I'm well happy with £360pa on a car valued at around £25k

I used to think that a vehicles market value was significant when it comes to insurance, but actually it plays a relatively small part in calculating the premium.
I still think the price you are paying is good though. :)

I have been with Tesco for about four years now. I currently pay £208 for my insurance. My renewal from them last time was £331 so I ran it through Moneysupermarket and they came up with £208.

I rang them and asked them if they could explain the difference and finally agreed to do my renewal at £208 which was about £30 cheaper than the previous year. I havn't made a claim from them yet so I don't know how they will perform in that area but yes, I am happy with Tesco Insurance and they are my cheapest insurer. :)

Post code has a big influence on Insurance premiums. Out here in Suffolk we do enjoy the benefit of not only low Insurance premiums but many other things to such as Council Tax for example :D

I find it utterly frustrating that we have to play this game annually. Not only comparing insurance companies, which is somewhat a given...but also comparing the comparison sites!

I have been with LV for a couple of years now, they seem to be one of a few who do not send overly inflated renewals in the hope of you not checking, I quite like that...

Possibly postcode Pete, probably the actual value of it in reality. A lot of firms wouldn't quote when they checked on what they'd have to pay out if I trashed it completely, no sense of adventure some people. :D

Yes I agree it is unusual and refreshing to find a company that does this.
Unfortunately though they have never given me a competitive quote in the first place, despite me being an existing customer of theirs for other products. :(
Yes insurance is a funny old game...
