Hi I have taken my car into a mb specialist in kent I am based in medway. Having judering from start up especially in cold weather. They have diagnosed it to be the torque converter which seems a common issue as has done 90k miles.

They priced the job at £1,400 this is for a replacement wet clutch/torque converter.

Does anyone know if this is a good price or recommend anwhere in kent or south east who has experience and may be a better option for these types of fault?

Thanks in advance

I'm curious as to how a torque converter breaks ....
It’s been a thing for years now across numerous makes and models ,must be something that “falls apart” ?

Thanks for the JPAT recommendation I will find out if they supply anyone locally to me that can fit might be a less pricier option.

I think they just wear down, especially having a car with such power and having done a decent mileage.

Does it have a torque converter or is it a wet clutch? The friction plates can wear or the bob weights break loose are a couple of common failures of torque converters.

Is that something that can be repaired as opposed to replacing it?

Hi all

Yes Anthony's is a wet clutch, its not a reconditionable item that we know of yet!

On a side note,I’ve seen at many ‘meets’ folks dropping MCT s (and other variants) into neutral whilst running so they can show off their rev noises on the go, I can’t really imagine that’s going to do the box a whole lot of good (Not suggesting you do Anthony)

Generally 63’s etc are driven hard at some stage in their life’s, why would you buy a 63 if it wasn’t going to be used.

Driving hard and driving abusively are quite different of course, agreed 63’s should be driven hard when the oil is nice and warm etc but with some restraint (occasionally at least!)

Same for all cars but even more relevant with performance cars.
Example. Water cooled 911 engines if they're caned from cold = big, big bills :(, ensure all gauges pointing vertically then nail the ******* **** off of them and jobs a good one :p:D
