Hi guys, help needed. I’ve been looking at getting an e63 w211. I’ve found one I like which is low mileage but a Japanese import (full eu spec) so a bit nervous regarding history of the vehicle as it’s all in Japanese. Is there anything I need to look out for and do you know if I could get it inspected by a local dealership or a Mercedes amg specialist around the Reading area? Could service history be verified by a dealership as they may have access if given engine/chassis numbers. Thanks in advance.

Nothing wrong with Jap imports, just be aware that mileage recorded is for a rolling car and not sitting in up to 6 hours of idle time on the Japanese congested city roads. Usually find these types of cars have been used as airport courtesy cars over there.
Still there shouldn't be to much to worry about.

No major issues on the Japanese import bit- just what you say regarding trying to patch it’s history together.
What year is the car? You need to check if it has the M156 6.2 engine and the serial number. There was well documented headbolt issue with that engine, affected serial numbers ending 060658 and before.
Star are in reading but whether they could help with an inspection I’m not sure, then there is MSL in Birmingham

As it's a 211 it will have the M156 and an early version at that. Having said that, it's been going fine for over 10 years now so should be OK. I'd be getting it checked anyway and, as mentioned, Star are in Reading...

As for the Japanese import side, there will be a few differences, dash in kph etc, also the boot lid may be different as it was on the earlier imports like the W124s. Worth a check with your insurance company to ensure that they don't penalise it too much before you commit to it.

Personally I hope it's a good one and look forward to reading about it and seeing pictures. :) The W211 is still my favourite E Class and I still miss my old E55.

Be aware the Comand unit will be no good as its set for the Japanese wavebands and won't work in the UK.
A very expensive swap if you want to stay OEM.

Thanks for the information guys, Car is 2008.

Engine 156983 60 022930
Transmission 722907 01 505119

I guess this means it’s a model without head bolt issues. Head unit has already been changed to a non standard one but wired correctly into amp etc, mileage is very low and has sent me all service history but all in Japanese so no way of knowing if correct.

It’s right in the range of headbolt issues, however as Daveenty has said, as it’s 10 years old + presumably it’s been sorted or has no issue!:)
