I fitted a new battery frame today, the old one had rusted away very badly.

I had a look at the strap the goes from the negative terminal to the body and was surprised to find the body end wasn't copper, should it be?

Would it be advisable to put Copaslip on the contact surfaces and the battery terminals?

It doesn't have to be copper, I use vaseline on the terminals to stop corrosion. Coparslip would work, lot more expensive than vaseline (free from bathroom cupboard).

The metal needs to be very clean, its better to make a fixed terminal post onto the body. Take a bolt, about 1½ inch long, the same diameter as the hole in the battery braid strap, clean the body work fasten the bolt though from the backside with a large coach washer each side, do it up tight. Place another coach washer onto the nut place the baided strap on,another coach washer and nut,do it up tight

That will be the end to your troubles, it only corrodes when it is lose.
