I would appreciate anyones tips in regard to making the cleaning of our loved ones easier, (not the wife, before anyone ventures down that path), our cars.
I love it when the cars looking clean and polished, but hate doing it as I personally have very little time to do so. So I am wanting tips to how to help speed up this cleaning process. I am sure you all have your own ways of doing things, and it would be nice to have some shared knowledge.
As my own tip, albeit appreciate people may already be doing this, is to clean around the wheel nut recesses, I use a piece of plastic tube that slips over the wheel nut with a piece of cloth over the tube, (I use an old sock), and regulary change the cloth, always works, I also always use a cotton bud to clean the very small holes on the inner circle of my alloys. My pet hate is cleaning the rear side of the alloys, without taking the wheel off! Anyone got a an easier way of cleaning this aspect of the wheel.

High pressure washers are not that much use on a car, but they are very good for the wheels, a quick wetting all over the car, and a final rinse,,do not point them for long periods on the sides and grills as cars are not designed for this

Stick it through the car wash, the amount of time and effort saved cleaning it by hand will pay for a new paint job every 5 years, and they do less damage than a jet wash or hand car wash according to 5th gear the other night.

Yes, appreciate your comments and input, but already been to war with MB about a MB car wash valet with my wifes W202, never trust them again, the paint work is still not right, roof and bonnet ruined, I will only hand wash our cars again, albeit we are both very busy people, and hence need to speed this washing thing up..

NEVER blast the washer onto the tyre walls, it will blow rubber/carbon out of the tyre and degrade it and could cause a blow-out

As to the use of electric tooth brushes I heard of a couple going through an acrimonious divorce where the wife was using hubbys toothbrush to clean the WC pan .

not sposed to use a sponge, they pick up airborn dust and dirt, you should be using a special hand mitt that you keep sealed in a bag when not being used, i dunno why i know that, i havent washed my car since i bought it! :D

Regarding the Electric Toothbrush, I bought a Sonic Scribber from a stand at the Goodwood festival of Speed last year. It's essentially an industrial strength electric toothbrush and works very well indeed on the black crud on alloy wheels, if you used this thing on your teeth it'd strip the enamal then rip out the stumps.

The Sonic Scrubber comes with three different heads for different applications and it works on 4 x aa batteries, which last a long time. It's excellent for difficult to reach places and is powerful and most effective - I'd recommend it.

You can buy them in Lakeland, I think they're about £15.

Reality is we all tend to use a sponge.....

A good tip to anyone when using a sponge (or hand mitt for that matter) is to use two buckets of water. One with your water and shampoo mixed in, the other just plain water.

Apply the shampoo to the car, then dunk the sponge in the plain water bucket to remove dirt and grit, then put it back in the shampoo bucket, apply to car, then back to plain water bucket etc.

This helps reduce the amount of grit you are spreading over your car - also you will find by the time you've finished, the plain bucket of water is full of dirt, while the bucket with the mixed shampoo in has stayed quite clean.

Then rinse the whole car off and chamois dry.

I wish I had your dedication, but I hate getting cold/wet/dirty.

I find that the Polish guys do a top job for £15, inside & out. I take mine to them every week.

If they are using them rubber squeegies on your car you need to watch the video i posted at the start of the thread, they do more damage than an auto car wash!
