Mercedes c200 cdi w204 2009
Hi

I have a 2009 year C200 cdi w204 (77k miles). Last night I got the above error and the steering became really heavy.
I restarted the car a few times and had the same fault each time.
Then I checked the tyres and noticed a couple were low pressure -I filled them up and drove around but the error returned. I then took the car to the car park and did a few turns - full lock both ways. I restarted and the fault hasn’t returned yet - I’ve driven about 30 miles today.
I had the car checked on my friends Autel diagnostics machine and the following error is stored:
5001 Stored
Control Unit N30/4(Electronic Stability Program Control unit), internal fault.

My question is, what should I do now?
Ignore the fault and wait for the symptoms to appear again? Or take the car to the garage to get it checked?
I’ve heard that the ESP control unit is very expensive to replace. Is there a way I can check if the control unit is ok?
I know a lot of people have had this issue and you guys are probably bored of hearing about it. I’m sorry to raise it again but it’s difficult to extract the relevant info from the numerous threads. I would appreciate it if someone could list the steps I should take to resolve this.

Not heard of this issue before with a control unit. Usually it's a wheel sensor.

It may be just shoddy programming in the control unit and you found a bug. Clear the code and see if it comes back.

Hi

I have a 2009 Mercedes C220 CDI, I have recently gone away and left my car at home parked. When I got back 2 weeks later the battery was drained and I had to charge my cars battery. after I got the car started again I've been getting the following error messages (EBV, ABS, ESP Inoperative; Power Steering Inoperative and Run Flat Indicator Inoperative) I've been asking around and everyone said I had to replace my cars battery so I went and got the correct battery for the car (658) now as soon as I start the car the error messages are gone, but as soon as I reach 20km/h the error message appear again.

I have taken the car now to multiple places including a Auto Electrician and no-one knows why it keeps doing that.

Can someone please assist me with this issue?

Hello and welcome,

If your battery goes completely flat you’ll need to drive forward slowly and turn the wheel from full lock to full lock. This is to reset the steering angle sensor - the ABS and ESP lights should go out then.

Hi Blobcat

I've tried that, but that also didn't work. I took my car this weekend to an auto electrician and they cleared the power steering inoperative as well as the run flat indicator inoperative, but now the EBV, ABS and ESP shows the following message "Unavailable Diagnostic.../ rig test"
