Eclass - w211 - rear demister questions

The top 5 or 6 lines of my rear screen demister have not worked for over a year and I decided it's time to sort it.

I noticed some breaks in the line elements, but I think these are deliberate. I checked a few other cars and they're all the same. So it's not just a case of filling in the blanks with conductive paint.

Why are the gaps there anyway. The top line has about three gaps in it, meaning a significnat portion of it is never connected ?

So my problam is top 5/6 lines. This is probably a small break or element decay somewhere at the top / side of the element. Any thoughts or confirmation?

Any answers on why the deliverate gaps?

Mines the same on a 57 E280, thought they were supposed to be like that?

Don't know why its designed that way but knowing MB there will be a good reason.

The vertical lines in the rear window also make it easier to judge cars overtaking

yep. just had it confirmed elsewhere, the top line few in the rear screen are ariel not demister - that explains why it doesn't demist then !
