I have an ECU malfunction: the engine starts but I cannot engage gear. I suspect that this is due to rain from an open sunroof damaging the central console. I need the services of a mobile diagnostic company in the West Midlands/Worcestershire, can anyone help me please? Thank you!

Does,nt sound like an ECU fault to me, more like a selector or brake light switch fault.
What age is the car? I take it, that it is Auto?

really? The car was totally fine until I absent mindedly left the sun roof open during the big storm of last Monday and it hasn't worked since then...

I would be tempted to take apart the centre console and with the battery disconnected take apart the electrical connectors and clean them & dry them out.

If by pressing the brake pedal you can release the gear lever then it is likely that the selector switch in the centre console has shorted.

It's also worth checking all of your fuses in case one has blown.

The water will probably have pooled under the carpet in both foot wells by now.

there is a control unit in the gear selector which may be contaminated, they used to be available separately but thats stopped now.
