hi all,
The EDC light has came on on my '03 plate 316 sprinter, she started fine then when i went to drive away the light came on and the engine died.
Now, last night about 1/4mile from home i had to reverse to let a car pass, well i bumped into a post (which put a small dent in the rear step) but then drove the last bit fine. Could i have dislodged some sludge which could have blocked the filtter?
I'm a bit nervous about changing the filter (got one today) as the merc dealer said you need a special bleed tool, is this right or can the filter be changed without??
thanks
carl

well the fault looks like it was electrical, i went for a little test drive and she ran ok, i had to stop to open a gate and on trying to pull away the edc light came on and the engine died. Starting her up again all was well, i then increased the revs in neutral and she made a horrible pinking noise then stalled. Started again and had a look under the bonnet, i wiggled a loom and saw a small spark at the same time the engine died.
Well the loom that runs next to the fuel filter support has wear on it at the point it touches the bracket, the bracket itself is shinny so i'll open up the loom and have a look . . . .

sure enough, found a wire which had chaffed through and 'snapped' when i pulled the braiding back. looking at the fuel filter support, it has provisions for 2 tie wraps which were both missing hence the loom rubbing.
