Does anyone know a good cheap supplier for an electric aerial mast for a E280 W124.

The motor seems to work fine, however the 1st tier of the aerial doesn't retract at all.

Regards

David

PS: I have tried cleaning and lubricating it.

David.

Europrts list complete areials  for £30+ vat, i can only imagine that the £160 price is a genuine one.

Now i'm a firm beleiver in genuine kit, Andy will back this up, but i do feel that aerials are an exception, i don't care who make them, electric ones eventually stick, thats if they get that old before the local tosser's break them, or in the case of my dear wife, listen to her favourite radio station in the car wash!!!!........i did tell her i'd wash her car!!

Have to admit to being pleasantly surprised that the cost of replacement at MB is so 'little'.

Having phoned Bradshaw & Webb in Chelsea they inform me that replacement for mast only is around £17.00 + VAT.

To find which aerial it is there is a letter on the top of the aerial.

I know what I will be up to tomorrow.

Thanks to all.

Dealer tip of the day:

To keep an aerial in good working order use a little household (squeak fixing) oil on a rag and rub onto the aerial. This will ensure that the aerial remains in good working condition.

Hi all,

Watch what you are lubeing the aerial mast with. Or should I say, wipe it of the excess after. The problem is that the dirt in the air as the mast passes through causes the problem.

So too much oil or what ever (personally I would never use oil) causes the exact problem your trying to avoid.

I've replaced three aerials (2x190, 1x230) all with non-MB parts from Halfords type shops.  From what I can see from the design, one company seems to have the monopoly on making them as they all have the same shape and size.  The Halford's one was £39 for the complete unit, it fitted perfectly into the rear wing of my 230TE, even came with correct angled grommet.

Sorry steve , i just picked up on your point about the rear window element.

I had often wondered how much this adds to the cost of a replacement windscreen or rear window.

On the windscreen is the rain sensor , which i would imagine just pops off and should not cause too much hassle to the installer.

but , on the new c class , the rear screen houses the : tv tuner , Gps antenna , radio aerial and the Gsm carphone aerial .

Now , having seen these being installed onto a c class in sindlefingen , its all glued onto the screen on a black part that sits behind the trim...

" ehh , we will have to get you a new back window mate . That will be £1200 ...."
