Hi all. I cannot find any reference for my 2005 Face-lift C220 CDI Avantgarde having heater elements in/on the electrically operated door mirrors.
The electrically adjust and electrically fold away but no mention of being heated/defrost !!

Nothing in the manual? Normally they come on automatically when temp drops below ~5’

Hi Bc I cannot see anything at all that even mentions a defrost/clear condensation off of the mirror lenses in any of the manuals that came with the car and nothing either in the Haynes Manual that arrived two days ago !!

In the morning when its cold start your car and hold the back of your hand against the mirror. you will soon realise by touch.
Seems too trivial for merc to mention that in the manual.

Hi mioba. I have scoured the manual and the other booklets that came in the document wallet and also throughout the Haynes Manual and nothing that I can see.

I would have expected at least a brief mention that the mirror lenses activated automatically for a brief period in temperatures that promoted frost and perhaps come on with the rear screen heating.

I read somewhere (maybe it was a US manual - I don't remember) that on my model S203 C-Estate Avantgarde that the mirror heating comes on with the heated rear window. That seems correct - when they've been frozen or misted up and I've pressed the HRW switch the mirrors have started to clear.

Whatever you do, don't be tempted to start dismantling them unless it's a major problem - the internal wiring is quite fragile. Fingers crossed, mine are still working... :geek: (shhh)! My driver's door mirror glass literally just fell out about three/four years ago - it was hanging down on wires. I bought an EBay glass and went to fit it and in the process I found that a plastic corner "lug" had broken. I reassembled it intending to go for a second hand assembly and it went in like it was new. With the lug still missing and my fingers double crossed, everything has continued to work since then! heh heh... I love Mercedes!

Hi Bc. Thank you for the info - my owners manual is laid-out differently from the example that you have shown and even after having had the feature shown it has become obvious how I missed it - a mention in italics on p32.

My manual is Edition AJ 2005/1 c

Hi Botus. That is what I think has happened in my case. Is it yet another 'Expensive' MB fix ?

proper diagnostic kit will tell you if the heating elements are open circuit or not - all the Mercs I check report the left one is dead

what I did on mine was go on ebay DE and buy secondhand the good quality drivers side one to replace the designed to fail passenger cheapy... but I never ran the wires to make the auto dim work. For no good reason, even today Merc save 10p and only dim the drivers one.... a really great decision when in lane 3 at 18:00 on a soggy winter evening !!!!!!!
