Hi Guys I hope someone can help me. I have a e250cdi, yesterday I noticed that my nearside door mirror was pushed all the way out-as in almost turned back on itself. I have them set to fold when the car is locked so I don't think anyone could have knocked the mirror out of position.
I tried to manually push the mirror to the correct position & then lock the doors so they fold in, this worked, unlocking & folding out is where is goes wrong, it keeps going back to the incorrect position.
Whilst I was driving I folded & unfolded the mirrors a few times with the power button & I heard a loud click or knock, now the mirror needs to be nudged to open. I can hear the motor winding away but no movement. Does anyone know of a fix for this? is it a quick fix?

The mirrors are made to disengage if knocked, operating the motor as you have done normally picks up the drive again and they go back to normal.

I think that the cover will have to come off to see if the chassis is bent.

If it is loose when unfolded it need reseating. Unfold using the button then give the mirror housing a sharp tap, so as to unfold it further and it should re-engage.

Thanks for the advise, would you know the best way to remove the cover on this car?

Thanks in advance.

E250 side mirror removal

Instruction required to remove the part of the mirror that will allow me to get to the issue I'm having. At the moment when I try to use the auto mirror it will move but does not lock into position, it just keeps going until it is at a stupid angle and not visible.

I think the mechanism inside has slipped?

I was looking at a video on youtube that shows how to remove the outer cover, I'm not sure if this will allow me to get to the issue I'm having.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem with my mirror and the only solution I found was to keep adjusting it in all directions and holding the button for a few seconds at each extreme position. It took quite a few goes! As the mirror is adjusting I doubt the problem is slippage, it just seems to have lost sync with the button.

If the mirrors are similar as the ones in the 211 then a cable might have snapped. Mine had the same faults when I bought it, after the rewired some (in my case crisp, in your case snapped?) wires all was good again.

I can only speak for the 211 version, but wouldn't think that it is much different on you model.

1. Unhook and remove the mirror
2. Fold the mirrors
3. When folded, you will see a metal clip in the exposed area
4. push a flat headed screwdriver into the metal clip
5. slide off the outer casing of the mirror (the painted part)
6. This will reveal the cables at the back and you can check if there are snapped or almost snapped cables
7. I would grease of spray some lubrication to the mechanism, in my case it was bit sticky
