its under the car, best to remove the off side rear wheel, then remove the cover dirt panel, so under the car rather than in

No the cover is built into the wheel arch, just about level with where any mud flaps would fit, so it is the bottom section of the rear wheel arch that comes off, nothing in the way

electric pump

Thank you Malcolm - that's great.

Brian is packing up for the day now- but he told me he has put a battery on to see what was working on the electric side , and on the near side rear he could hear a ticking noise, somewhere around where the electric aierial is as if it was a fuel pump. I f the fuel pump is on the off side, before he starts pulling the covers off inside the boot, do you know what this is.It only ticks away for a couple of minutes then stopped. I am asking you as i don't know if he has disconnected the electirc pump and by-passed the fuel lines. I know he has connected the fuel lines up to the engine. He will have a rest tommorrow as he is Kn............red. Hoping to fire it up on Monday. I am learning as i don't know anything about the electric fuel pump on the SL, as you know i am a diesel woman. Off to run him a nice bath now. Thank you for your time Malcolm

cheers Mrs B

No access to the pumps from inside the boot,, the pump will run for a few seconds when you turn on ign. it cuts if it does not receive a pulse from the crankshaft, this is all part of the fuel cut off, and operated from the fuel pump relay, to make the pump run all the time just bridge pins 30 to 87 on the relay

electric pump

OK thank you Malcolm

Brian has just read your replies.

Crankshaft censor isn't on there -looked on the bell housing - but it seems the mechanic has cut it off-can't even find the lead for it.

Will completely remove petrol pump on Monday- do i need to take out the relay for this as well. I will just tape the wires up that go onto the pump.
Really had enough of this today- but do appreciate your help-will have another go on Monday if it's not raining.

electric pump

Thank you Malc

I am completely taking the pump or pumps off as the diesel has it's own pump. Hope to do this on Monday and fire it up. Let's hope it starts, as i have not yet connected the glo plugs and relay up to it yet.

electric pump

Hi Malcolm

My diesel engine has fuel injection pump with a fuel lift pump-all mechanical. Are you sure that what you were looking at was petrol and not diesel.
