Hi all, firstly a big thank you to all who have helped with my previous problems.
Now here is another to keep you all busy and test your grey matter.....the electric seats in my 1990 300se w126 all work fine except the rear of the passenger seat base will not go up or down.
Can anyone tell me which of the 3 motors under the seat controls this...i have a new motor but am unsure which one to change as there are 3 motors together in a line under the seat.
Thanks in advance everyone...

Are you getting power to the motor? The most common problem is the switch contacts.
By checking the power to all 3 motors, you'll be able to work it out by a process of elimination.

I agree 100% switches do not like inductive loads, without a cap over the contacts

It looks like the three under the seat all controll the seat base in various ways. The backrest motor is at teh rear - see item 218 on the second diagram.

HTH,
Bill

Apologies! I missed the word "base" in your question and read it as rear of the passanger seat (thinking you meant the back rest). From the diagram it looks like the front one of the three motors controls the rear height of the seat base (part 524 on the last diagram). As others have said, it's also worth checking you have power this far when you operate the switch.

Cheers,
Bill

Hi billyboy, thanks for info, well after much shouting and swearing fiddleing about under seat trying to get at the motors i managed to change the correct motor.....sadly still not working so all for nothing, guess it would have been easier to change the switch first....
Anyhow,i shall try to get a new switch and hopefully solve the problem......
Cheers for all your help,i`ll let you know how i get on...

It's easy enough to just clean the contacts in the switch.
