electric seats becoming annoying

ok i have an clk320 convertible 2002

The passenger seat only goes back and forward when it feels like it and it is really doing my head in. It is meant to move forward when you lift the lever up to gain access to the back but i have only see this do it about twice in 2 years! just moving the seat forward sometimes does not work and takes a few back and forward motions with the switch to get it to go. I have checked alot of various stuff, eg fuses, carpet catching the seat, motors but cannot get it to work everytime as it should.

Please help

There is no way i am taking it in to the dealers where they can rip me off as usual!

I also have this problem with my 300SL. I can get it to work but needs a bit of fiddling with. I also find that once i get it working it will be fine for that time i am using it.

anyone any ideas as i am fed up of having to go into the dealers with stupid niggly problems!

Don't know if this helps but from my handbook
"To allow rear passengers to enter & exit comfortably the seat moves forward when you fold the backrest forwards if the seat is in the rear half of its adjustment range. On vehicles with electric seat adjustment the head restraint also lowers automatically"
