Hi, first posting on this excellent site! I have searched existing listings but have not found the same problem as I have!
The drivers side window on my 1992 230TE recently started playing up, when pressing the rocker switch to the down position it would go all the way down and would take ages to get back up (turning ignition on and off with swith in up position), also if you operated the passenger window the drivers one would most likely go down aswell! Although obviously frustrating with a little patience I was prepared to live with this small issue with an otherwise perfect car (190k miles). Now it has given up completely, I have swapped the rocker switch with the passenger side and the problem still exists, so i stripped down door and to cut a long story short ended up reversing polarity of wires to motor to raise the window. It seems to me to be likely to be a sticking relay contact, where is it located? Also after stripping down door on a busy street at 5pm in the dark, and initially removing motor and wedging window up with screwdriver, on reassembly and reversal of the motor the window went up at an angle, this must be due to the white nylon roller about the size of a pound coin that was laying in the bottom of the door, where does this go!!!!
I'm hoping someone can give me some advise as the last thing I need is buy yet another Haynes book of lies and remove the negative connection to the battery every time I change a bulb!

Window

I have just replaced a window mech due to failed teeth on the quadrant. As far as I cound see there were no round bushes (size of pound coin) involved...All were square and sat in the obvious runners than form part of the mechanism. The only thing i can think of is that the back (nearest the lock) runner has become very worn..you will know if this is true. Other than that try lifting the rear of the back slider( where said bit should be) or indeed dropping it, you will see that one end is fixed (single hole) and the other is on a slot. If you drop the mounting in the slot the window will go up towardes the reat and vice versa. Also make sure the window is in the front guide inside the door and hidden from view by the motor mounting area. To do this look down through the slot the glass comes up through and see if it sits in the foam lines guide towards the front of the door. i had the window working perfectly but not in this slot! I understand the problem of a busy street.....I had a lot os people muttering I was in thier way at 08:00 on a sunday. PS Dont belive Haynes... Reassembly is not the reverse of disassembly. Look and the way you think it shold be abd you cant go wrong as long as the window is in the front guide and moves into the rear guide on its way up. Hope this help.

May be a bit late now with my tuppenceworth, but this 'roller' thing you found is a distance piece which should be fitted between one of the motor mountings to the frame of the quadrant. It acts also as a 'stop' for same.
Cheers.
