Hi to everybody and thanks for reading !
I have a problem on my 1991 124 TD.
Both front electric windows don't run at all except when I open the door ! (No electric window at rear)
When the door is closed, they stop lifting or raising and restart when I open it
Any help or/and information should be strongly appreciated.
Thanks
JP A

sounds like a relay / fuse is dead. the windows are supposed to operate when the door is open wether the ignition is off or on - obv the power isnt getting to the switch / motor when ign is on...

You do not have a problem.

Normal operation for the windows - is they will ONLY operate when the ignition key is at position I or II, OR if the ignition is off AND the door is open.

Electric windows problem MB 124 (next...)

Thanks to you, Guy and Norman
I apologize but I am not a native english speaker.
I think I have bad explained my problem :
I can't open the window when the ignition is "on" and the engine runs !
So to open it at a gateway (highway to pay) for example, it's not possible !
I must open the door, and the window lifts, either on left or right.
I think to a relay but where is it ? Are the relays grouped on this car ?
Thanks you a lot

Try this - turn the ignition on, sit in the car with your finger on the window button and try opening and closing the door. You'll may find that at some points the windows work - and at some points they don't. If so, do the next test

To check it's not related to the door switches, open the door fully and operate a window. Whilst it's going up (or down), press the door switch in the door jamb between the hinges. If the window stops, it's related to the door switch circuit. Troubleshoot that to find a cure

If the windows work whatever the position of the door switches, but turn on and off depending on the angle of the door, you have broken wires in the flexible rubber link to the door. Take off the door trim, cut all the wires going into the door and join them to half a metre of new cable, keeping the colour code the same or noting the changes. Next cut back the cables in the rubber link to remove the section that passed through the door. Feed the new cables through the rubber link and join back to the originals

Now test... and the windows should work fine!
