HI Guys,

I have a 2023 registered GLC300e petrol / hybrid, from brand new, but in the last few months, I have been experiencing some serious electrical issues. These are as follows: -

Boot lid stuck open, and wont close.
Sunroof opens half way, then stuck.
Sunroof tries to close but then bounces back open to half way.
Drivers window opens, but upon closing, gets to closed position then bounces open again, to the half way position.
Reverse sensors and front sensors just go off whilst driving.
Braking system just stops the car for no reason, without any traffic in front of the car.

Now I have has a factory fitted Ghost Immobiliser installed, professionally installed and certified.
Speaking to the Dealer where the car was purchased, they simply keep blaming the Ghost Immobiliser I have fitted (as its a keyless entry / start),

However, when having to call out Mercedes Assistance for a completely powerless / dead GLC....., the Engineer stated it is NOT the Ghost Immobiliser, as the Ghost Immobiliser is only wired to the starting system, and nothing else.

Has anyone else experienced or is experiencing any issues like this? At the moment, its making me very nervous having to drive the GLC in case of being stranded and in need of recovery?

Any help / advise would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,
Andy

The car should be under warranty, but I can see the immobilizer fitment clouding the issue. I'm not sure why you had one fitted, but when did the problems first occur and when did you have the immobilizer fitted?
Windows and sunroof all have an anti-trap feature, if the experience resistance they will pop back open. If you don't use them much then just a build up of dirt can trigger this. I make an effort to open all of mine fully at least once per month.
The anti-collision braking is of concern to me and I would hazard that this is nothing to do with the immobilizer, but the dealer may argue that the fitment of the immobilizer may have caused the issue.
You may have to look at having the immobiliser removed in order to test out the theory that this is the issue.
BTW you can disable the key-fob with some button presses so that the Keyless-Go function is not functional, this is primarily for long term storage of the fob to save battery power, but is a good security measure when your car is parked up outside of your house overnight.

Thanks for the response.

In answer to your question. The Ghost Immobiliser was installed at the showroom, on the day of collection. As I had the same Immobiliser on my previous GLC (71reg) onto the new 73reg.

As we are having a spate of keyless thefts in the West Midlands, it was more peace of mind, having the extra security.

The electrical issues have only just started happening, say 3/4mths ..??! Hence why I can’t understand why? I was just wondering if it was electrical issues with the car, as the New GLC does seem very advanced now being all touchscreen..etc….

It is due its first service on Wednesday, and will have MB look at the issues, but I was just curious if it was an issue with all new models or not …?

Many thanks
Andy

If the immobiliser was fitted at the dealers prior to collection then I would think that as they're the "agent" then they would be responsible even if the issue is down to the immobiliser. If the fitment cost was included in their invoice then they are definitely responsible in sorting out the issue.

I realise about the issues with Keyless thefts hence why I mentioned that you can disable the key fob using the buttons on the fob itself. This stops it transmitting any radio code that would be potentially boosted by a prospective thief.

For my own vehicle I do this when it is parked on my drive - I have also removed the "stop/start" button so that I have to insert the key in order to start it. When parked elsewhere I'm normally too far away for the key signal to be boosted and so use the keyless entry as normal when returning to my car.

The Ghost Installations Company installed the Immobiliser, not MB. My Business organised the Ghost install before collecting the New GLC.

With regards to the new GLC, you cannot remove the stop/start button, like previous models, it’s now a solid stop/start button mounted on the dashboard, it’s not a “slip in” stop /start button into the ignition key slot …..

MB trying to get out of fixing their faults, perhaps you should elevate the issues?

That's good to know, thank you.
You should still be able to disable the key fob transmitter though, in the manual its normally stated as being for long term storage of the key rather than as a security feature.
