Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum so excuse me if I have placed this in the incorrect area. I have a 2002 E320 CDI W210, when I accelerate (especially when cold) I can hear what I can only describe as an electrical "arching" noise coming from the engine area, it seems to only happen when it revs over 2000. Today I think i managed to locate the noise with the engine cold and the bonnet opened by reving it.
The electrical noise seems to be coming form the black box highlighted in the picture below, can someone tell me what this box is and what it does and should I be worried about the noise coming from it. If anyone has any experience of this issue and soltuions I would be geatful if you could let me know.

Thanks in advance Jgleeson

It's a vacuum tank for the turbo actuator (and possibly EGR tranducer)

Thanks Toby, is it a servicable item? I see a small filtering hanging from it, does this need changing? Any ideas on the "electrical" noise coming from it?

The filter could be the filter connected to a hose at the bottom of the actuator as that is the connection to atmosphere. Unlikely to need changing unless it's really clogged up,

No idea on the "electrical" noise.

The tank should hold vacuum so if it doesn't leak then no need to change
