I have an E-class and to change the lightbulbs behind the display cluster you need to either push the cluster out from behind (difficult) or get a special tool - Cluster Removal Tool ( two stiff wires with a 90 degree hook at the end to put it out from the front - carefully).

dont even consider trying to push or pull the cluster out lol
if ppl dont know how to do it dont offer advice

depending on which a class u have (new shape or old)

old shape...
remove the trim below the cluster 2 screws then pulls off
then remove the binicle with 2 screws
2 more screws and cluster is out :)

new shape....
bit trickier under the binicle u need to put a screwdriver in in and release the clip the binicle will pop of conce u have released both side then 2 screws

Thanks for the advice. It's a 1999 V elegance, I assume thats the old shape? Call me a tight git but I do grudge paying £90 that mercs want to change the bulb.

Thanks to northwest-tech. Easy when you know how! Got the job done in 1/2 hour for 50p. Brilliant!

I have this same problem on a new shape A190 (2001).
Can you be more explicit as to where you put the screwdriver? I'd hate to snap something accidentally.
I presume you mean on the front, far left and far right of the binnacle, and that this then reveals the 2 hidden screws?

appreciate any tips
