Engine blew up after recall for software update

C220 recalled for software update and a week later oil leaked out the back of the engine. 187000 motor way miles. Is this a coincidence or not. Never had a single problem before. Got it at 60000 4 years ago.
Carry out Service Measure SMPC743 - Uodate engine control unit Software {5496135}

I can’t see a software update would cause the engine to loose oil, I’ve heard of timing chain tensioners coming loose and then loosing oil.
