I have an MOT and can anyone recommend a good engine cleaner to give a good blast to the components, there are a few on the market but most are unsuitable if you have a CAT Conv.

I have a 300 se 1991 which has about 130k on the clock

When doing under the bonnet, I spray selectively,,I cannot see any of the cleaners as being a problem. by just cleaning off a small area I agitate with an old paint brush and rinse off with a kettle, to stop water from going where I do not want it

Do you mean an external engine cleaner or an additive to 'clean' the internals of the engine?

I never gave that a thought with my one track mind :( and I could not possibly see why cleaning the engine would damage the CAT

^^ What this man says. Take it for a blast at 60/70 and leave it in 3rd/4th gear if a manual or lock it in a lower gear if an auto.

I have always used the forte products and found them to be good.

I would steer clear of engine flush's though as often they can cause more harm then good.

100% Pass

Gave the car the Italian Tune Up and also added a bit of injector cleaner, it seemed to do the job as it passed 100% without any problems.

No advisories so 12 months of happy motoring. Thanks for the advice.

I say no advisories he did mention a squeak in the front suspension.

i would not use a fuel additive with the fuel level low as the measured gases would contain the cleaner/ additive giving a higher reading,an italian tune up will help and testing when hot,i see you have a 1991 car.if i remember correctly cat testing is for cars 1992 onwards
