Hello fellow members! I have just stepped into Mercedes ownership after driving a long list of BMW's. I've bought a 2003 S55 AMG and I have a (probably dumb) newbie question.

The car is allegedly the 500hp Kompressor model however I've popped the bonnet in search of a supercharger and there's nothing obvious under there!

My engine number is 11398660037615

Can anyone help me with an engine ID?

Welcome to the forums, from what I can see the 113986 does not have a kompressor, it would be a 113991

Hmm, this is starting to worry me, the car was advertised as a Kompressor model and the rev counter has "AMG V8 Kompressor" on it but as far as I'm aware there's no Kompressor unless it's hidden in the bowels of the engine somewhere. Maybe a quick call to MB would resolve the issue. I'll let you know the outcome.

I've just been to MB who were very helpful and gave me a full printout of the original spec for my car. NO KOMPRESSOR!! Now I'm in the situation where I'm waiting for the company who sold me the car to phone me back because the guy in charge is "in a meeting". Thanks for all the help so far, what a friendly forum!:D

PS if I keep the car I'll be firing more questions at you such as " why does my boot lid only open half way even though I've set the option to fully open" and "why does my keyless entry system lock but not unlock from the button on the drivers door"? etc etc.

Be prepared!

So, you have at least part of the cluster from a different car....could be an innocent reason but needs checking out!

Hopefully you did a history check before buying? Did the dealer warrant the recorded mileage?

You can look back at the MOT mileages (if they were supplied) online.

Hopefully the Merc printout shows the same matching VIN and engine number combination.

if your not after the extra punch of a blower, it might be a good bargaining position for you to get a nice big cheque back

I did a history check via mycarcheck.com and everything is fine regarding chassis no, engine no, finance, damage, stolen/recovered and so on. The dealer has guaranteed the mileage however I don't have any previous MOT's to verify this and the history check held no information.

Merc printout verified the engine/chassis numbers as original.

The car was first registered in May 03 however I've noticed that it has an earlier interior to some 02 registered cars that I've seen. Very strange.

Merc did tell me that the car is a German import rather than produced for the UK market however this could just mean that the first owner ordered his car through a German dealership and drove it over himself.

I have spoken to the dealer that sold me the car and he is checking the details himself. He swears that he took it in px with the full belief that it was a Kompressor model.

It seems strange that the rev counter has the AMG V8 Kompressor logo on it but I suppose this could have been a retrofit.

Things just keep getting stranger!

Well dont let his issues affect your car, its his problem he accepted the car as is and then resold it. Your only issue is with him misseliing you the car. Either he gives a full refund or a big discount as you really, realy really wanted a kompressor eh :)

Today didn't go too well. I got the runaround basically. I was given the usual " it's been such a chaotic day" story. In the end I mentioned trading standards and having their company name splashed all over the interweb and they became a bit more sympathetic to my cause. "Tomorrow" they will get right onto it and find out what's going on. Time will tell!

Hello again guys n gals. I don't have a Kompressor but I have come to an amicable agreement with the dealer so all's well. Now I just need more power! I'll be searching the threads to see what you've been up to in the way of tuning but if anyone want's to give me a link to something useful I would appreciate it. ;)
