Engine idling problem

I am having this problem lately, while driving all of a sudden when i slow down the idle very rough. Its idles like its going to stall and even i press the accelerator it wont rev up. I got to switch off and restart and all is okay. What could be the problem, has anyone had this problem.. Model W124 - 1989 -230e . Need a solution last it happen it the middle of the highway and its very dangerous.

I'd check the EGR Valve or air mass sensor to start with.

Had exactly the same problem on my car and only last week cleaned the Throttle control valve with some carb cleaner and an old tooth brush it is now absolutely perfect.

Dont forget the OVP relay item 86-89 in the link below, this can cause a rough idle, as well as the above threads. this is a well known fault,they suffer from dru joints and the fuse blowing.

I have changed a new ovp relay lately and this problem comes only when i slow down in a traffic, otherwise the does fine
