Engine light

Any one any idea, why my engine light came on, its a 2001 c240, with 60,000 on the clock, and showing 1,000 till service,
I left work, went to put my foot down, and it spluttered a bit, then ran fine, But the light is on, and i dont want to do any more damage,
I know it probably needs to go on a reader, which i cant do till Monday, But i really need the car on the road tomorrow.
Does any one know any decent mechanics, in the Liverpool area thanks

It will not be anything that bad,,you can drive the car and the lamp may go off as easily as it came on. just a little contaminated fuel could put it on.

If the CPS faltered that could do it

What a spot on reply, i hd the car diagnosed, by a ex merc mechanic, which showed 2 plugs, being at fault, According to the mechanic, a lot of the time, when there serviced, 2 plugs are a pain to do, and get left, So i booked it in to get done, He didnt manage to turn the warning light off, So i drove back to work, with the light still on, A hour later on the way home, NO LIGHT
