There are numerous posts on here about Engine going into limp home mode and the autobox not kicking down to utilise the relevant gearing, one thing I always do if this hapens ..and recently I was plagued with such a problem on my S320CDi ...was to use the tiptronic and change the box manually, and it is amazing how well u can keep up with the traffic when using this method. By using the gears up to the 3000rpm limit u can achieve quite a bit of forward motion.. certainly good until u can pull over safely and restart, hopefully curing the problem for a few miles.

if I ever get it I just put it in neutral straight away while i still have a fair bit of speed and just turn off for 10 secs and then on again, job done. speed usually doesn't drop below 50 when doing this if i catch it early, probably not to veryones taste though, hehe.

Hey this is something i have wondered about I have tried this on a few occasions and my car wont pick up the drive again, I have always had to practically stop to get the box to function again and i have tried it with a few other mercs and same problem so I thot it was peculiar to the make.

My sprinteris a manual, so not a problem, just start he engine again put in a gear and get the revs right and off you go again. Don;t know anything about how an auto would handle that sorta thing.
