Hi guys,

I've noticed on my way back home that the engine management light has come on. The car seems to be driving fine but I am really worried what the problem may be and the possible costs.

Would really appreciate any help in as simple language as possible :) as this is my first car and really don't have the money for costly repairs (if any).

The more descriptive of the parts I need to check and where it is exactly located, the better as I have very little idea of what part is what.

The car is a 2003 C200 Kompressor Coupe, 1.8L petrol, manual with 114,000 miles.

Thank You

This could be something or nothing - it could even be a faulty warning light!

You need to get the car to a specialist who can diagnose exactly what the problem is.

Most commonly it will be a split cvp pipe under the air box. Although you really need the codes reading on star

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your reply. What is a CVP pipe? I've tried googling it but I've had no luck (always comes up with PVC pipe! :D). When you say 'air box' are you talking about the air filter? IIRC the car battery is located under the air box :|

EDIT: I've found a pic on my laptop of the 'airbox' (so I think) area with the airbox taken off. Is the CVP pipe located there?:

As I said in my OP, I'm near clueless about the majority of car parts as this is my first car, so I'll need a bit of 'spoonfeeding'/description from you experts and I very much appreciate it. :) I'll be learning as I go along.

Here's a pic under my bonnet. Please let me know where to look specifically:

Would really appreciate any help.

Thanks guys ;)

The breather pipes under the airbox is common, there is another pair of pipes and valve under the super charger which also go, they take more time to do. they get missed a lot as well......

Will it be safe to drive the vehicle to a garage? Or is it advised that I don't drive the car?

The car has been left outside my house for a week now as I haven't had any time to take it to the garage. Hopefully, if safe to drive, I'll be taking the car to a Mercedes specialist to have a diagnosis done along with possible repair costs. I just hope it doesn't cost a fortune.

Thanks

I should also add that there is a bit of oil leak around the oil filler cap area, except it doesn't look like it's come specifically from the cap, but it's around that area. Has this perhaps caused the light to come on?
