Dear Mercedes owner,

I recently purchased a CLK 200K sport (second hand - reg 52) and I had to get one of the air valve changed at my mercedes garage two weeks ago. It was repaired fine, two weeks after, i.e. today, the engine management light is on again and the car does not pull much (same problem I believe, i.e. air valve). I already booked it for re-visit in tow days, but when I was about to go out tonight, and but the car will not start, but the battery is fine.

Any suggestions? Is the car not starting because no air is coming through?

Really annoyed about it, especially after been repaired two week ago.....for what is likely to be the same problem!!!!

If you are refering to the MAF, sometimes the fault codes can be miss read, because of a fault somewhere else, other parts can show as being faulty as they are trying to compensate for what is wrong.

Thanks

Mass air filter controls many parts of the engine, it is the main air intake device that works in conjunction with the fuel and temperture. all of these parts work hand in hand, so if say you had an injection problem, the MAF would try and adjust to suit, when a fault code was read out it would show an ignition fault and the MAF. the MAF would only show as being faulty as its stored setting have changed.
If the engine will not start it could be the main ECU, Electronic control unit
Malcolm.

A MAF is basically (basically!) a hot wire in a pipe. The more air that blows over it, the cooler it gets. The MAF measures the airflow via the temperature of the wire, and tells the ECU how much fuel to inject.

The MAF on my old Audi A4 1.9Tdi went once, resulting in the car pulling like a 1970's N/A diesel. £200 later, and it was pulling like a train.

At least thats my understanding of it :)

Is the engine cranking? Don't turn it too much, unless you have a battery charger you'll flatten it completely.

If bolted on the rear of the box with two pipes at the bottom then that is the dPF pressure sensor..............and yes, it fails for a past time...
