Hi, I’m two weeks in to owning a 2018, W205 cd220, wagon and the engine management light has come on this morning. There are no messages or other warning lights lit up and the car is driving and performing as it should. I intend ringing my Mercedes Indy garage on Monday to get it on to their diagnostic machine, but does anybody know what could cause this?

After 5 starts it may go out, if not STAR diagnostics.

EML could be a load of difference things, best bet is the wait for the diagnostics, does the car have any other issues or noticeable symptoms?

Did you buy it from a dealer ? Might be worth a conversation with them first .

As Wighty said.
You've Consumer Rights Act 2015 on your side. Take it straight back, their problem to fix. If they can't/won't you can reject the car for a FULL refund (within the first 30 days). Very powerful leverage.

Not that I’m aware of. No other lights or warning messages. Power and fuel consumption are as expected.

Yes but they’re 200 miles away. It’s got an RAC warranty so I’ll use that.

yes I‘m aware of that, but as I’ve said above, dealer is 200 miles away. I’ll utilise the warranty if needs be.

I’d think twice about not taking it back if it is a serious problem they should take the car back and refund better to give them a ring to discuss what to do next. I assume you’ve bought the car from a trader and not a MB franchise if the latter no problem any MB dealer will sort it out?

Yes an independent trader. I’ll see what my local independent Mercedes specialist says tomorrow and take it from there.

Speak with the selling dealer first. It's their responsibility to do the running around, not yours. You're under no obligation to take it back to them, you can insist they come and collect it to repair/return or whatever.
If you make it clear to them, I'm sure they'll stump up for the diagnostics locally.

Just back from my local independent Mercedes specialist. New Nox2 sensor fitted, covered by the warranty. Fingers crossed all good going forward.

Great news, don’t be surprised if the other NOx sensor plays up they often need replacing in pairs
Ha ha, the lad at the garage shouted after me as I left, “See you next week for the other one!”
