Engine misfire after aircon condenser replaced

My 1997 SLK 230 Kompressor's air con condenser was replaced after being holed by a stone (according to local garage staff). When I picked up the car it started to misfire shortly after driving off. I nursed it back, the engine cutting out a few times, to the mechanic who did not know what the problem was. After some thought it may be that some water from the radiator may have got into the air intake pipe which was also detached in the repair and therefore reached/affected the AMF or even the engine. Does anyone know if this is the likely problem, is it major and what is the solution?

My money would be on them having disturbed a sensor of some kind during the repair.

First place to look would be the MAF sensor, it may be a good test to run the car without it connected. Malcolm would be better placed to comment on this than me, I don't know if it would throw a fault which would need a dealer to clear with star ?

Had a simular problem on a car that was repaired by another garage, they had somehow let coolant get into the intake pipe/intercooler. we had to remove intercooler and dry out before the car cud be used properly, ie it would run ok but when the boost pressure increased it pushed more coolant out of the intercooler onto the air mass.

Thanks Richard & Star, it was as described in the Star post. There was coolant water in the air intake/intercooler. A good clean out seems to have sorted things out.
