Hi there,

I have been informed by the dealership that I have an engine oil leak. They have wiped it down previously and went back for a separate matter. The dealership have no idea where it is coming from and will obviously cost an arm and leg to ask them. But on the same token they are telling me the output shaft seal is leaking slightly.

Could someone please tell me if they are related or what would they suggest I do? Most importantly how much will it cost?

Thanks.

The output shaft must be the crankshaft,, thats a strange word for it.

Its a matter of removing the damper pulley and replacing the seal. not a big job and cheaply done by an indie

Hiyya!! Avoid the dealers if possible. A visit to the local indie will do the trick. Also I have found Lucas Engine stop leak to be very effective. Just replace a litre of engine oil with Lucas. But treat it like an interim fix. Get the repair done as soon as you can. Cheers!!!!

Just a point on these "additives"--although they are not cosidered a permenant fix they swell the seals and do stop minor leaks similar to fitting a new gasket --they can last a long long time too?

Hi there! It could be a hit or miss thing. In my banger VX Corsa, it permanently repaired the leak. In my aluminium block Honda, nope. It's not a problem actually as I regularly check the oil level but the trickling engine oil may find its way to some hot bits under the bonnet and start to burn and you get that smell in the cabin. Yuck!!!!
