Hi,

The bright red message "Engine oil level - Visit Workshop!" appeared on my dashboard recently.

I checked the oil and the car told me that the oil level was fine.

The same warning message then came on two days later. Again, I checked the oil and all was good.

I took it into my local MB dealership who charged around £400 to rectify the problem.

Suprise, suprise... 4 days later the same warning message came up.

Does anyone know of any known faults relating to this?

My car is a 2003 SL55 AMG.

Thanks in advance!

Toby

Not good,, why do MB dealers do this, they have probably changed the sensor in the sump,, now there is more to this than meets the eye,, all of this info goes through a front SAM and these can have faults where the SAM looses contact with the oil sensor, so up comes the message.

I suppose we should be glad that they are not surgeons!!

"I'll just cut that bit out to see if it makes you better... Didn't work? I'll just cut out something else and see if that works!!"

Anyway, thanks for the reply. Could I please ask what SAM means? I will speak to them about your suggestion.

Thanks Malcolm,

Toby

Our cars have SAM ecu's these are devices that store information on what the car has.

Since these cars came out MB have replaced about 300 passenger side SAM unts,, this is because they can sweat and get corrosion on the PCB and on the connector pins.

Mine went down giving me stupid messages, as it so happens the oil info passes through this SAM.

All of this is thoughts and it should not be sneezed at
