I started my e320 cdi this morning as normal - no problem. My daughter's car had a flat battery so I connected the leads to jump start the car (they were connected + to + and - to -), and restarted the engine. It starts fine, but goes on full throttle until it hits the rev limiter. Disconnecting the leads, it still does it. What have I done?

Ouch this is a hard one. I think to start with I would disconnect the battery, wait 10 mins and reconnect. The E class is not prone to spikes and things. Give it a try. do make sure that the front doors are closed.

Will I need a code for the cd player/radio/command unit if I disconnect the battery?

From 2000 on these units are once coded from new, it it is the full sreen command then there is nothing to code. My car is 02 and I had both batteries off over the weekend.

Disconnected the battery and left it for 10 minutes. No joy though. Could be a call to Mercedes!

This then would appear to be the fly by wire circuitry gone wrong somewhere.

I still cannot really think it was anything to do with the jumping to the other car that caused it, you did it by the book, and even if you did not, I for one, fail to see the connection to the fault.

I will have a look later in the day to see if this is a known problem, but doubt it very much as this is the first time sinse I have been on the forum that this problem has come up.

I also dont get the connection, if you dident flash the battery there should be no problem. and even if you did you should not have this result - unless of course you did accidently flash the battery and this may cause computer harware damage. I hope im wrong.

Always a better feeling when two of us feel the same.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
I don't know if its the same system as mine, but open the bonnet, find the accelerator cable (should be near the steering column), and make sure its not caught on anything. Also give the throttle pot a bit of a fiddle, just in case its got a bit of dirt on the wire.

Well, dafter things have happened :)

My Lotus did this a couple of times. The throttle linkage had gone a bit too far and stuck wide open.
Very interesting as it happened on a spirited overtake!
