Can you help?

I suspect that the thermostat in my C class 220D (02 plate) is stuck open.

The car is new to me, so I do not know what the temp guage should show, but it seems that the engine takes a long time to warm up and does not achieve a temp of more than 60 degrees as shown on the temp guage.

The heating never really blows what I would call hot.

Does this sound I need to check the thermostat?

thanks

Hello martin and welcome to the forum,, yes that is way too cool and a 203 220cdi should run at 90c.

I have the details of how to change the thermostat if you would like it

One more thing you could help me with Malcolm?

Could you point me to a good on line shop where I could buy a thermostat kit?

That would be great.

Cheers

Its changed, but those fuel lines are brittle!!!!!

Just to calm my nerves, (drove to work this morning with my eyers glued to temp guage), what sort of range of temp should I expect to see.

ie. Hard Motorway driving

ie Congested traffic on a hot day

etc?

thanks in anticipation.

Thanks Malcolm

it seems to be running at that temp now.

Let me ask that question in a better way: how hot can it get before I should get worried?

cheers

? Over 100?

The engine is probably running at 100,, but the point where it is measured from is a bit lower.

The most efficient temp is at over 100,, My old 1928 RR that I had, though 3 liter it was rated at 20hp, this thing only came to life at near on 100c and you had to juggle with the rad Louvre slats via the dash to keep it between 100 and 108

well mine is running warmer now, but still not at that temperature.

On my 25 mile trip to work the engine warmed up to 80 C this morning. That is a very steady drive through a 40 mile an hour set of road works on a motorway. The heating off for the first 10 minute and was set to auto 22 c, so no greatdemand.

This seems to me to be still running too cool. Thoughts?
