Hi All ,
New member here .
Just recently bought my car, 54 plate CL600 .
Washed and hoovered it and took it for quick spin to dry it .!!

Just down the road ,I seem to lose power steering .ABC warning came on and charge battery warning .

Limped home ,car then making a racket .Lifted bonnet to find the large pulley belt off the pulleys .
Looking at engine from front, the top left pulley is in pieces .
Is this a common problem ?
Will it have caused any other probs ?
Car was not even warm so it did not over heat or anything .
Is the fix just a replacement pulley or is it a water pump pulley or power steering pulley .
Any advice appreciated .
Regards
Rob.

How did you know what my next question would be .!!!????
I have taken the old pulley off ,melted and in bits !!

Will hopefully get a new pulley tomorrow ,if its a instock item (probably not !!)

Then I was going to ask if anyone had a diagram of the pulleys so i could try and put the belt back on .

Has anybody done this before ,and is it easy enough to get it back on the pulleys .??

Thankyou .
Rob.

rule of thumb with the belts is the tensioner is after the crank pulley (look in anticlockwise direction) tensioners have to be placed like this to work correctly (just like cam chain tensioners). then, following anticlockwise, usually alternator next, once you get this far the rest will fall into place - as opposed to falling out of place!

I have now put the new pulley on ,but cannot decide the configuration of belt around the pulleys .

Its a bit tight for space behind the fan ,but i will use a stick to put it in place on the wheels .

All I need now is a diagram showing how it goes around the 9 wheels / pulleys .

Can anybody help with a diagram showing 9 wheels /pulleys and belt .???

Many Thanks .

that picture will help a lot. it`s easier than you might think, following the tensioner back. some pulleys have flat faces, some ribbed which gives an extra clue. if you get started it will all come clear.

I think one of my pulleys has started squeeking / chirping (mine is the new M.272 2.5L V6). It only seems to do it first thing in the morning and stops after a few minutes. It's difficult to isolate which one and I don't fancy sticking a screwdriver in to try and have a listen. I'm pretty sure it's the guide pulley towards the centre top. Any thoughts / diagram for this engine?

Many thanks. Unfortunately mine appears to be a bit different - only 8 pulleys instead of 9. Looking at mine it appears to have 1 tensioner pulley / mechanism and 2 idler pulleys. I suspect the noise is coming from one of the idler pulleys. The tensioner does seem to move very slightly (pulley doesn't wobble) - is this normal?

Thanks fellas for the help .
Dosco that looks like the Kiddie !!! (I will keep for future reference )

I was a bit cheesed off last night ,not being able to do it so I called on a bloke I know with a garage and he came to the house this morning and sorted it for me .Wouldnt take any cash either .Top Bloke .(hes into his big engined cars ,Mercedes ,Jaguar etc .)

Recommended if you need an Independant in Heywood ,near Rochdale .
BJ Motors .

It is quite straight forward when you have done it once ,but space is tight .!!

Thanks Again Fellas .
Regards
Rob .
