Please help. My car was driving fine last night. Woke up this morning and it will not exceed 3000rpm. There are no Malfunctions on the computer. There is half a tank of diesel in it. If you switch it on and rev it straight away in PARK it will rev up to 5500rpm but as soon as you let go and try again it won't pass 3000. Whilst driving in D it quickly climbs gears at 1500rpm. It won't accelerate or kick down. If I drive it in Tiptronic it will sit in 1st gear at a steady 3000 (20mph) and not go past that.

Mercedes C220 CDi (143bhp) W203 (year 2002) Diesel Auto

Does anyone know whats wrong ?

Sounds like you require a new MAF

Would the MAF not throw up an emmission malfunction on the computer ? Car starts on the button and runs fine hot or cold up to 3000 rpm no sluggish or missing in the engine. It accelerates hard to the 3000 but won't go past it. Could it still be faulty and perform like this?

I had a MAF failure a few weeks ago and nothing showed up on the computer, just a lack of power and stuck in emergency mode

They can do funny things once they have gone,

Sounds like you have another fault, a hook up to a star machine will help!!

Does anyone know how much a Mass Air Flow Meter is then ?

This car is beginning to scare me I switched from BMW to Mercedes because I thought their reputation implied reliability but it averages 2 major faults a month and is becoming very expensive to maintain :(

Not a big job if you are reasonably adept. BEWARE you need to get the correct part. Bosch Auto Centres are a good reasonably priced source.

I had exactly the same symptoms from my C270Cdi just after I bought it 2 years ago - MAF replaced under warranty, problem completely sorted (and touch wood has not recurred!).
