I appreciate it’s hard to say but is it going to be anything major that could harm the car or should it be fine until I can get it into a garage

Codes in other modules can also turn the light on. On your A class, it's likely to be in the PTCU module. If you can't read this module you will see no codes.

An Icarsoft reader will access all modules.

If the MIL is on, the module that is requesting it has to be an OBD node. An OBD mode or module has to support the diagnostic services ISO15031, aka EOBD.
So any of those cheap generic EOBD/OBDII tools should be able to tell you why the MIL is on.

As well as just checking for codes you can check the live data Pids. One will tell you if it is requesting the MIL (each OBD module will respond).

Hi I’ve ran it through better diagnostics and it’s seems to be

Mercedes 7G-Tronic - Seven Speed Automatic Gearbox Problem

Is this a common fault if so do you know how much roughly something like this would cost?

As well had another code come up regarding the flap in my exhaust that’s not opening properly only affects the fuel consumption is this a easy/cheap fix?
