Hi guys. new to the club but find it very interesting and usefull. I just acquired a 1992 Benz 250D diesel manual. It ignites ok but will not stop running even after switching the key off and removing it.
I also need a manual for this but do not know exactly where to go.
Please Can anyone help?

hi montom. is the car 'running on' for a bit after turning off the ignition, or not stopping at all?

Your car uses the vacuum system to close the fuel shut off valve. You have a leak somewhere. Check that all the vacuum hoses are connected and in good condition.

There's a manual shut-off lever between two of the inlet tracts. You'll see a gap where the inlets bend apart - put your hand in there and pess down the lever with the red markings. That'll stop the engine

Either you have a vacuum leak or the shutoff valve is broken / sticky / needs lubricating

I ignored mine for a few weeks and it cured itself. Didn't work with my "new" car, though

You'll love the 250D. Great engine and a great car

I suffered this on a 1986 307D van. It wouldn't stop so I resorted to stalling it in gear (probably not the best method but it worked). It was the shut off valve that was faulty as mentioned above. Changing it was a doddle, just 2 x bolts/screws and pop the vacuum pipe off. The vacuum pipes seem to be a dark brown colour as standard on all mercedes and are quite thin (probably 4-5mm) and on my van ran to the ignition barrel before going to the shut off valve. Dissapointingly the genuine replacement was a cheap plastic bodied affair while the original had a metal body. It can't have been particularly expensive or I would have remembered!

Thanks guys. I've not been on the nt all these days and do regret it big time after reading all your replies. The valve was done in a guarage and they charged me £120. now I feel like an idiot 'cause I could do it myself. once small, thanks.

Not an idiot at all, we all learn our lessons the same way. This is exactly what the forum is for. We're all here to help and we all need a little help occasionally. It is always useful to ask for advice so you can decide wether a job is within your capabilities or best left to a proffesional. We all have our limits.
