Hi, I have a 1992 E320 cabriolet and have just had an oil leak repaired which entailed the removal of the coils. unfortunately when everything was reassembled she wasnt running very well and upon inspection it was found that the wiring loom to the coils had become brittle. I have been told that its a known fault and a repair kit is available. ,which contains a short loom, with a connected plug and annother which you connect into the loom. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Hello Chris and welcome. The kit is available from MB, though it is not cheap, please do not run the car more than necessary as you can damage the ECU and that would be a shame as it is expensive .

Here is a link to the work involved ,,many make up there own harness using new wire and heat shrink cable and soldering on the new wires close to the original plugs.

If you choose to make up your own I can guide you through the soldering process

I paid my indy a visit last weekend, and he took great delight in showing me the genuine MB repair kit for the engine wiring loom.

Quite why i like him so much is beyond me, with a super large grin he explained that as my complete loom was replaced as have many other cars' too, at as Malcolm says great expense, MB have in the last 18 months or so brought out a nice little part of the loom that should replace the usual bad section at the princely sum of.....wait for it....£40ish.

So get yourself down to your friendly MB parts counter, who probably won't know a thing about it, as £40 may not be as desirable as relieving you of 500 smackeroos.

Does this cover all 6 cyl engines (ie also the 280 and later V6's in W210s)? Any info regarding a MB part number would be very helpful indeed Juddian.

Thanks for the info, I managed to get a short loom and replaced it, which seemed to do the job. When changing the lom I also changed the vacuum pipe at the front of the engine, as that had also become brittle. However now she seems to have an intermittent fault when idling, causing the revs to change from 500 to 1000 rpm. Does anyone have any ideas?

Chris you have a vacuum leak still on one of the pipes, that is the only thing to cause the engine to hunt
